Pacaya Volcano Climb

Tour starts in Guatemala City or Antigua Guatemala

$ 65.00

Pacaya is an active complex volcano in Guatemala, which first erupted approximately 23,000 years ago and has erupted at least 23 times since the Spanish conquest of Guatemala. Pacaya rises to an elevation of 2,552 meters (8,373 ft). After being dormant for a century, it erupted violently in 1965 and has been erupting continuously since then. Much of its activity is Strombolian, but occasional Plinian eruptions also occur, sometimes showering any of the nearby Departments with ash.

Difficulty: average/high

6:00 a.m.: Transfer from your hotel in Guatemala City or Antigua Guatemala to the starting point of the Pacaya Volcano Tour.

7:30 a.m.: Arrival to San Vicente Pacaya where the walk of ascent will begin.

9:00 a.m.: After a nice walk through volcanic sand paths with great views of the volcanoes and unique vegetation, you´ll arrive at the plateau where you can see the main crater of the volcano. We won´t visit the crater of the volcano for security reasons but you will see the lava (if active at the moment) and some steam baths created by the heat of the Pacaya Volcano. Also, our view of the surroundings will depend on the weather, especially the clouds.

10:00 a.m.: Descent walk begins.

11:00 a.m.: Start our return to Guatemala City or Antigua Guatemala.
